  • Manchester City have the advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League title race
  • Pep Guardiola's men are one point clear with a game in hand with five games left in the season
  • Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold claimed it was long gone from Arsenal's grip

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold claimed to know when the Premier League title was out of Arsenal's hand now that Manchester City are in pole position.

Manchester City have an advantage of a point and a game at hand over the Gunners, and should their current form continue, they will lift their third consecutive title on May 28.

Mikel Arteta's men were eight points clear weeks ago, but a run of four games without a win, including three straight draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton, and a 4-1 loss to City, dropped them to second.

The Reds are the only team to have won the league title other than Manchester City, who have won four of the last five, but they have had heartbreaks similar to what Arsenal could experience.

According to Reuters, Liverpool lost the league twice with just a point in the last four years. They got 97 points in the 2018/19 season but failed to win, and also 92 points in the 2021/23 season, also failing to win.

Alexander-Arnold speaks on title race

The 24-year-old English defender has experienced what it is like to come up against the Citizens in a title race and has revealed when he knew it was out of Arsenal's grasp.

'The league's obvious now; I've said it for a while. If City are even anywhere close, if they smell blood at Christmas, New Year - it's game over really; there's no stopping them once they start winning and now at this point, I'd be surprised if they drew a game, he told Red Bull, as quoted by Mirror UK.
''I think it's just got to be a mindset. I think it's just the messaging because they don't even go behind in games at this point. There's no messing around, there's no scares, there’s no ups and downs.''

Arsenal fan suggests title-deciding metric

Sports Brief reported that an Arsenal fan came up with a metric to decide the winner of the Premier League title after City overtook the Gunners.

The Twitter user claims the club that spends the most days at the top of the table should be awarded the title instead of the top team on matchday 38.
