FootballWild Scenes As Fans Storm Stadium, Player Loses Shorts After Napoli Wins Serie A
- Napoli ended their wait for the Serie A title after winning the 2022/2023 league emphatically
- The procession to the title was mostly a walk but a few hiccups along the way made them wait
- This is the story of how Luciano Spalletti conjured up magic with a team not many believed in
Napoli have finally won the Serie A - pass it around. After 33 long years of agony and near-bankruptcy to Luciano Spalletti's recent magic, Napoli finally got their due by taking the Scudetto over the line at the Dacia Arena on May 4.
After a blistering start to the season, there was always a feeling that it was just a matter of when, not if, although not many would have backed Napoli for the title after losing squad leaders like Kalidou Koulibaly, Lorenzo Insigne, and Dries Mertens.
However, Spalletti and club president, Aurelio De Laurentiis had a plan.
That scheme started off with shrewd business strategies. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was roped in from Dinamo Batumi for €12 million, with Kim-min Jae following on in a deal of €18 mil.

Napoli's business strategy
For a combined fee of about €30 mil, backed by the budding Victor Osimhen, the Partenopei launched their bid for the Scudetto, wiping out any team that stood in their way.
The script was the same in Europe, with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool bearing the full brunt of a team on a mission. It soon became the Osimhen-Kvara show, with the latter getting nicknamed Kvaradona after the legendary Diego Maradona.
It was indeed befitting that it was the Georgian international who played a huge role in bringing the title back to Naples, three decades after Maradona won the last Serie A.
How Napoli could be Serie A champions as early as next week against Salernitana
FootballVictor Osimhen vs Udinese
In Udine, it was the usual suspect of Osimhen who came up with the vital goal. Like Salernitana over the weekend, Udinese were intent on delaying the title coronation but Napoli needed only a point.
As has often been the case this season, the Nigerian hitman does not require a second invitation, pounding in his 22nd goal of the season from close range.
After match referee, Rosario Abisso blew the final whistle, the pandemonium began both in Udine and at the Diego Maradona Stadium, where fans had a watch party.
Away fans in Udinese climbed over the barriers, overpowered the stewards, and made their way onto the pitch to embrace their history-making Napoli players.
Zielinski loses his shorts
Led by Spalletti, the players took in the hugs, the kisses, and the adoration. For others like Piotr Zielinski, winning Serie A was not enough. Fans 'demanded' his shorts and more often than not, fans get what fans want. The Polish star was then chased around hilariously as the fans begged for his shirt as well.
Kaizer Chiefs: Every red card against the Amakhosi's opponents this season
FootballFrom Spalletti's emotional face to Osimhen's growls to captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo's roars - one could clearly see what this moment meant to Napoli.
Osimhen captured the whole moment beautifully with a simple tweet;
"Dear Napolitans, the Scudetto has been delivered. Now we feast!"
A party in Naples
And feast they did. And feast they will for the next five game weeks until the season is over. Fireworks, megaphones, flares, whistles, and drums were the order of the night. Given this is not something that happens every other year, one gets a feeling it is about to hit fever-pitch when the stars arrive for their open-air bus parade.
They might have stumbled against AC Milan in the Champions League and against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia, but Napoli now have something to show from a season that could not have gotten any better.
They are Italian champions; it might take a while to sink in but when it does, they should remember that somewhere in the skies, one Diego Armando Maradona will be looking down with contentment and pride.

Sports Brief has also reported on Osimhen reacting to Napoli's win after a 1-1 draw against Udinese wrapped up the Serie A title with five games to spare.
The 24-year-old Nigerian striker scored the goal that would ultimately crown his team the champions of Italy, for the first time in more than three decades.
