Ghanaian Forward Rak Sakyi Wins Two Awards at Charlton's PoTY Ceremony

English-born Ghanaian winger, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has scooped the two top awards at Charlton Athletics' 2023 Player of the Year dinner.

The 20-year-old Crystal Palace loanee won the Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards, following an incredible campaign with the Addicks.

Rak-Sakyi has been the club's livewire since joining last summer, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 42 games.

"Jes Rak-Sakyi has been named as Charlton’s Supporters’ Player of the Year for the 2022/23 campaign," the club wrote on their official website.

Charlton Athletic revealed the 20-year-old had received 46 percent of the fan votes.

"[Rak-Sakyi] has enjoyed a clinical campaign with the Addicks, scoring 15 goals and registering eight assists in Sky Bet League One so far this term."

The club also explained captain, George Dobson was the runner-up to Rak-Sakyi for the award, with Miles Leaburn finishing third.

The Ghanaian shared his excitement after an amazing season in League One with Charlton.

“I just wanted to come here and get as much game time as possible but then I ended up playing, near enough, every game of the season and I’ve just really enjoyed every minute,” he said.
“I think the main aim was for me to get minutes in men’s football and see how I’d handle it because last season I was playing U21s football. It’s been really good and I’m very happy.”

Before joining Charlton, Rak-Sakyi made a few appearances in the Premier League for Palace under former manager, Patrick Vieira, per TrasnferMarkt.

Rak-Sakyi reacts after EPL debut

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on English-born Ghanaian teen, Rak-Sakyi praising Vieira, hailing the Palace manager for giving him his English Premier League debut.

The 18-year-old, who joined the club's youth team from Chelsea, was given his first professional contract in July 2021 and debuted in the league a month later.

In a post-match interview with the club's channel, Crystal Palace TV, Rak-Sakyi expressed gratitude to the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner for having faith in him.
