  • Erik ten Hag has enjoyed a successful start to life since joining Manchester United from Ajax last summer
  • The Dutchman recently helped United win their first trophy since 2015 after their EFL Cup triumph in February
  • Ten Hag is expected to continue with his rebuilding mission at Old Trafford as he eyes more glory with the club

With only a few matches left to end the season, a number of managers will be switching gears to making preparations for the 2023/24 campaign.

Erik ten Hag will be no exception, with the Manchester United boss expected to lay another foundation to help the Red Devils challenge for titles.

By all standards, the Dutchman has hit the right strings since he took charge of United last summer to succeed Ralf Rangnick.

According to Goal, Ten Hag initially had a difficult start at Old Trafford as he lost two of his opening matches before he got United back on track.

With an FA Cup in sight, the former Ajax boss will be embarking on an elaborate plan to help the Manchester side challenge for more titles next season.

The plan includes strengthening the squad, including signing a prolific striker to bolster his attack.

Be that as it may, there will be at least five current squad members who are expected to play a major role in Ten Hag's continued mission to rebuild.

Sports Brief takes a look at the five players:

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez

Varane and Martinez have struck a perfect partnership at Old Trafford.

The duo has formed a major part of United's heart of defence this season, with Martinez complementing the Frenchman since his arrival last summer from Ajax.

Martinez was initially expected to struggle in the Premier League, primarily because of his height and stature.

However, the Argentine has managed to disprove his critics and has been a revelation at the Theatre of Dreams.

Martinez and Varane are expected to continue at the centre-back next season.

Casemiro

A proven winner and leader.

Casemiro has been pivotal for Man United since his arrival from Real Madrid.

Since his arrival, the Brazilian has been a mainstay figure in Man United's midfield and will be a big part of Ten Hag's rebuild next season.

Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese playmaker is easily United's best signing post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Fernandes has risen through the ranks in United's dressing to become the club's vice-captain.

Away from his leadership on and off the pitch, the former Sporting Lisbon star has been crucial for the Red Devils with his performances.

Marcus Rashford

The England international has been in the form of his life post the 2022 World Cup.

Rashford has been firing from all cylinders, with his sensational form contributing to Man United's successes this season.

The forward has scored an incredible 16 Premier League goals this season.

5 strikers Ten Hag wants

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Erik ten Hag has reportedly handed Man United chiefs a five-man shortlist of world-class strikers he wants the club to sign ahead of the summer transfer window.

The United boss is understood to have prioritised the signing of a prolific striker at the end of the season, with the club currently without a substantive one since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ten Hag has not hidden his desire to add a No9 within his ranks - and has openly spoken about it.
