World Cup Qualifiers: Rwanda Fight Back to Hold Harambee Stars in Kigali
- Rwanda vs Kenya Group E World Cup qualifier ended in a 1-1 draw at Nyamirambo Stadium
- Michael Olunga scored Harambee Stars' opener in the ninth minute before Abdul Rwatubyaye cancelled it out
- Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee's men will now shift their focus to their next Group E fixture against Mali set for October
Harambee Stars' hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup have suffered a blow after being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Rwanda in their second qualifiers match of Group E.
However, Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee's men were short of breath during their trip to Kigali on Sunday, September 5, as they settled for a point in a match they should have won.
The visitors had a bright start in the early exchanges, with Michael Olunga bagging the opener inside nine minutes of gameplay.
However, Kenya's lead was short-lived as the hosts restored parity 10 minutes later through Abdul Rwatubyaye.
Mulee rung a couple of changes to the team that faced Uganda Cranes, dropping Abdallah Hassan to the bench.
The tactician drafted Erick Johanna in Abdallah's place, with the former partnering Olunga and Masoud Juma in the hunt for goals.
Despite the tactical tweak, the home side remained resolute to secure their first point of the qualifiers.
Rwanda had suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Mali in their group opener staged at Adrar Stadium.
Meanwhile, the result in Rwanda now leave Stars second with two points on the standings currently topped by Mali.
They will now shift their focus to their upcoming fixture against Mali who they will play away sometime in October.
Mulee sets eyes on Qatar
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported Harambee Stars head coach Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee has reiterated his desire to help the team qualify for the next edition of the World Cup slated for 20222 in Qatar.
The national football team has never made an appearance at the global showpiece.
While Mulee is well aware of the daunting task to help Stars qualify for the World Cup, he has expressed optimism it can be done.
