  • Liverpool beat fiercest rivals Manchester United 7-0 at the beginning of March
  • The loss was United's heaviest Premier League defeat since 1931
  • Jurgen Klopp picks it as the highlight of their troubled season which will end with just the Community Shield

Liverpool have had an inconsistent season which will end with just the Community Shield, and they could also miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.

The Reds played all possible games last season, lost the league by one point on the final day, lost the Champions League final to Madrid and beat Chelsea to win the FA and Carabao Cups.

Despite their troubles on the pitch this season, Jurgen Klopp's men demolished their fiercest rival Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield in the North West derby.

According to Goal, the loss was United's heaviest defeat in the Premier League since 1931, and it came at the hands of their bitter rivals, who have also beaten Bournemouth 9-0 this season.

Klopp picks Liverpool's season highlight

The German manager admitted it has been a difficult season for his team but wants fans to remember the season for whitewashing their rivals.

“So this season, if we don’t do something really special, it will be remembered for the 7-0 against United,” he said, as quoted by talkSPORT.
“I hope people when they speak about it in a few years will look back and say ‘Ah it was the year when we beat Man United 7-0!’”

The former Mainz boss still hopes for Champions League qualification next season, with the Reds up to seventh, seven points behind United in fourth.

“If they could say something nice on top of that and after that we still qualified for whatever, so that would be nice but if not we have to take that as well,” he added.

Klopp commits future to Liverpool

Sports Brief reported that Klopp committed his future to Liverpool despite the club ending transfer interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The Reds were in pole position for the highly-rated English midfielder as they planned a massive revamp of their midfield in the summer but pulled out due to the cost of the transfer.

The 55-year-old admitted there are times he disagrees with the bosses, but he has been around for long to walk away on the back of financial incapability.
