Real Madrid are not loved by Uruguayan football fans at the moment following the La Liga giant’s refusal to release the country’s youngster, Alvaro Rodriguez, for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

Rodriguez scored five goals to help Uruguay finish runners-up behind Brazil at the U20 South American championship. Still, the 18-year-old won’t be in Argentina for the World Cup after Real Madrid did not release him.

"We received notification from Real Madrid that they will not be able to loan the player on the requested dates.
“For us, he is a fundamental player considering what he showed at the South American tournament. Unfortunately, Uruguay coach Marcelo Broli will not be able to count on Alvaro.”

Rodriguez has made six appearances for Real Madrid's first team this season, the most recent coming on March 11 as a late substitute in a 3-1 win over Espanyol.

Garnacho opts to play for Argentina

Meanwhile, Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho is set to miss the FA Cup Final after the teenager opted to play for Argentina at the Under-20 World Cup, Daily Mail reports.

The Argentine youngster has been sidelined since March with an ankle injury but is set to return for the crucial final against neighbours Manchester City in June.

Garnacho has become an essential member of Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United squad this season, appearing in 29 games and scoring four goals.

FIFA U20 World Cup draws concluded

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will trade tackles with Brazil at the FIFA U20 World Cup to be hosted in Argentina from May 20 to June 11.

Other teams in Group D are Italy and Dominican Republic, as many already tag it as the 'group of death'.

The Flying Eagles are one of the four African representatives having qualified for the tournament after clinching bronze at the U-20 AFCON held earlier in the year.
