  • Manchester City made light work of title rivals Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium last night
  • Pep Guardiola taught his apprentice Mikel Arteta a tactical lesson with a genius tweak
  • The win moved City to within two points of the Gunners with two games still in hand

Manchester City made it look too easy against title challengers, Arsenal last night. It certainly seemed the Gunners had not come to the party while City had a training game.

The match was one-sided contest, not going according to the build-up and what fans had anticipated, with one Spanish tactician teaching his apprentice a tactical lesson

Fans could say Arsenal stars were shambolic on the night, but they were up against a superior side in tactics and individual quality, which was evident throughout the game.

Mikel Arteta admitted after the game that the better side had won and said his team are nowhere near the exceptional levels of their opponents, as reported by Athletic UK.

Pep Guardiola's tactical tweaks

Pep Guardiola dealt damage to Arsenal by implementing a tactical tweak he has not used this season, and this was one move Arteta had not expected, as reported by SportBible.

Twitter user, @EBL2017 spotted the difference in City's build-up last night compared to normal. This caught the Gunners off-guard before they even knew what was happening.

"Instead of building in a 3-2-5 with an inverted fullback, City are building in a 4-2-4. Arsenal are matching up in a 4-4-2, but the problem is KDB is free between the lines if they're aggressive, and if they're not a CB is free," @EBL2017 wrote on Twitter.

Arteta made tweaks of his own in the second half to adapt to City's build-up but it was too late to get anything out of the game, bar Rob Holding's consolation goal before Erling Haaland scored City's fourth.

"Arteta adapted the press so City no longer had a spare man in the build-up. Saka comes inside to mark Dias & White pushes high to press Akanji at left-back. It was top management to adapt to the system change from Pep," @EBL2017 added.

Arteta copied Guardiola's tactics

Sports Brief previously reported how Arteta copied Guardiola's tactics to deploy former Citizens star, Oleksandr Zinchenko, who joined Arsenal for £32 million in the summer.

The former City assistant boss revealed he utilises the Ukrainian as a floating full-back similar to how Pep deployed German full-back, Philip Lahm during his time at Bayern Munich.
