  • He allegedly assaulted a female colleague during the Carling Black Label Cup last November
  • Dube has since come out and explained his side of the story in a remarkable tell-all media briefing

Phumlani Dube has gone on the offensive to clear his name, probably adding fuel to a fire in the process.

The former AmaZulu marketing director quit the job due to allegations of gender-based violence.

According to the Sunday World, Dube assaulted a female colleague at the Durban-based club while on duty at the FNB Stadium on November 12. The duo was part of the club’s contingent as Usuthu was playing Mamelodi Sundowns in the one-day Carling Black Label Cup football extravaganza. A month after the incident, Dube issued a statement on social media, announcing he was resigning from the club.

As per developments on that strory, he was at pains earlier today during a heated media briefing explaining his side of things:

“AmaZulu is the full club of drunkard people, especially those in the management and players. One employee, Zama Nene, said why I’m stretching my [private parts] and shouldn’t I come and collect the branding? I told her that you are out of order in the professional environment. I pointed to my finger at her and then she charged to me and she threw herself on the floor and rolled.
“After she rolled down without me touching her, she wanted to use her bruises to her advantage that I have beaten her. Then I was dismissed by AmaZulu in November for something that I have never done in beating her.”

Ex-AmaZulu player reportedly murdered

The headlines surrounding AmaZulu have not been pleasant ones lately.

Former AmaZulu player Mduduzi Nxele was found dead in his home last week Tuesday. As reported by Sports Brief, the 41-year-old Nxele was found hanging in a bedroom inside his Westham home. Suspiciously, his hands and feet were bound, strongly suggesting that he had been murdered. No suicide note was found on the scene.
