  • Chelsea's search for a new manager continues after the sacking of Graham Potter
  • The club installed Frank Lampard as caretaker until the end of the season to allow for an expansive search
  • The club has already interviewed Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann

Chelsea have taken their search for a new manager further by holding talks with Sporting Lisbon's head coach, dubbed the next Jose Mourinho.

The club are careful not to repeat the mistake of hastily hiring Graham Potter after parting ways with Thomas Tuchel back in September.

Club legend Frank Lampard is the caretaker until the end of the season to allow for more time to conduct a comprehensive search and interview many candidates before a permanent manager is announced.

Chelsea hold talks with Amorim

Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim is dubbed the next Jose Mourinho due to similarities with the former Chelsea boss and compatriot.

Guardian reports that the Blues have held talks with the 38-year-old Portuguese manager, and he has a release clause of £8.7m in case the club wants to trigger his release.

Metro UK reported that Amorim ruled out a Sporting exit earlier this month, but the Blues believe they can convince him if he is their preferred candidate.

Agbonlahor advises Chelsea against Mourinho

According to Relevo, two-time boss and current Roma manager Jose Mourinho is also linked to the vacant position, which would see him manage a third spell at the club.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has told the club to overlook the 60-year-old as it does not make sense to bring the former Real Madrid manager back to the bridge.

“I think it would be really silly to bring him back a third time. It just doesn’t make sense with where Chelsea want to go,” he told Football Insider. “For me, it’s got to be between Nagelsmann and Enrique. I don’t see Mourinho coming back to the Premier League.
“To be honest, I don’t see him staying in club football after Roma. I feel like he’ll try and take charge of an international side, and that might suit him. But I don’t think Mourinho can be an option for Chelsea any more.”

Amorim rejects comparison to Mourinho

Sports Brief reported that Amorim rejected comparisons to Mourinho after knocking Arsenal out of the Europa League round of 16 on penalties.

He also revealed that the former Inter Milan boss called to congratulate him on the feat and hoped they meet in the competition, a wish yet to come to pass.
