Emmanuel Ebiede: Former Super Eagles Attacking Midfielder Dies at 47

A former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Ebiede, passed away at age 47.

The former Sharks of Port Harcourt star passed away in the Rivers State capital on Friday after he suffered from Hepatomegaly.

He had been admitted at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, where he eventually gave up the ghost, Daily Post reports.

Ebiede was part of the Flying Eagles squad at the African Youth Championship on home soil in 1995.

He won only two caps for the senior Nigeria national team, making his debut under Serbian Bora Milutinovic in the 1-0 win over Iran in a friendly match played before the 1998 World Cup. He made three appearances for Nigeria in 1998.

Ebiede first moved to Europe in 1995 when he joined the Belgian club Eendracht Aalst, and after two years, he moved to Dutch outfit SC Heerenveen.

He also featured for several clubs in the Middle East, including UAE outfits Al Jazira, Al Ain, Al Dhafra and Al-Wasl.

He last played for Israeli outfit Hapoel Bnei Lod before his retirement.

Nigerian star dies in Spain

Football fans in Nigeria were thrown into deep mourning following the untimely and shocking death of CD Madridejos youngster, Ado Bala Hadi.

The Nigerian forward was on the pitch for his club in Spain against SP Cabanillas in Tercera División Group 18, when he suddenly fell in the 39th minute.

The match official immediately signalled for the medical team to rush onto the pitch, but their efforts to revive him proved futile, with the Nigerian player confirmed dead minutes later.

Julia Ituma passes away

Sports Brief earlier reported that a volleyball player of Nigerian descent, Julia Ituma has passed away after reportedly falling from her hotel room window.

It was stated the tragic incident happened just hours after her side were defeated in a semi-final fixture of the Champions League.

Ituma was discovered motionless outside the hotel building in Istanbul on April 13.
