Former Ghana Captain Stephen Appiah Reveals Biggest Black Stars Regret

Stephen Appiah has opened up on his biggest regret as captain of the Black Stars of Ghana.

The former Juventus and Fenerbahçe star enjoyed a 15-year career with the national team, becoming the first captain to lead Ghana to the World Cup.

Appiah was also part of the famous Ghana team that reached the last eight of the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

Despite his exploits as leader of the team, the 42-year-old regrets not winning any trophy with the Black Stars.

"I wish I won a trophy because saying Stephen Appiah captained us to the World Cup is not enough. I wish I won something that I can boast about," he told Sompa FM, as quoted by Pulse.
"But at the end of the day, players like Ryan Giggs won every trophy in football but they get hurt when you remind them of not playing at the World Cup. Because that is the ultimate and everyone wants to be there. I'm not saying we should have won the World Cup but we played a couple of African Cups and couldn't win as well."

Appiah made 67 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring 14 goals, including one at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Essien watches Real Madrid vs Chelsea

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien was at the Santiago Bernabeu to watch two of his former clubs, Real Madrid and Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

The 40-year-old witnessed the European champions Real Madrid ease past ten-man Chelsea after a dominant performance.

Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scored on opposite sides of half-time to ensure Real Madrid travel to London next week with the advantage.

Sadio Mane for the first time lost his cool after a dressing room altercation with Bayern Munich teammate Leroy Sane.

The Senegalese attacker reportedly left the ex-Manchester City star bleeding after he punched him following the first-leg UEFA Champions League quarter-final defeat at the Etihad.

The German champions were easily brushed aside by City after a 3-0 defeat on Tuesday night.
