Bayern Munich fans were in a protest mood ahead of the UEFA Champions League game against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

City destroyed the German champions 3-0 with goals from Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland to put themselves in an advantageous position ahead of the second leg in Germany next week.

It was the first meeting between Pep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel in the UEFA Champions League since the German tactician guided Chelsea to victory over City in the 2021 final.

It is safe to say Pep got his revenge, but that would only be perfect if the Citizens go all the way and win it in Istanbul, Turkey, in June.

Bayern fans display banner

As spotted by ESPN FC, the Bavarian fans had two banners displayed ahead of the game. The first targeted the owners of the two Manchester clubs, the Glazers family and Sheikh Mansour.

''Glazers. Sheikh Mansour. All Autocrats out! Football Belongs To The People,'' the banner reads.

The second was a mockery of UEFA, with cash exchanging hands displayed over the European governing body's logo with inscriptions, 'We care about the richest. Your greed kills our football.'

According to Guardian, all German clubs operate a 50+1 rule except RB Leipzig, who exploited a loophole in the rule and are the most hated club in Germany.

What is the 50+1 rule?

According to Global Sport Matters, in Germany, the Bundesliga operates under a long-held rule that requires 50 per cent of a club plus one share to be possessed by team fans.

Fans enjoy a 51% voting majority when it comes to any and all decisions. Commercial investors can make suggestions, but unless fans get behind them, nothing can happen, according to FourFourTwo.

They have relentlessly pushed for the adoption of this rule across Europe due to the high influx of billionaires from Asia and America, and when the European Super League fiasco happened.

City fans display lawyer's banner

Premier League hit Manchester City with 115 FFP breaches in February, and fans displayed a banner with the inscription 'Lord Pannick on the streets of London' to warn the league of their lawyer, as Sports Brief reported.

Pannick is one of the best lawyers in the world and reportedly charged £5,000 per hour or will earn £400,000 per week to defend Manchester City's case in front of an independent panel.
