  • The lethal Nigerian striker reportedly suffered an injury during international duty
  • Milan defender Theo Hernandez believes whoever replaces the striker will do well

Ahead of the first-leg showdown against rivals, AC Milan in the Champions League quarter-final, Theo Hernandez believes there will be no problems without Victor Osimhen.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international has been ruled out of the encounter, having sustained a strain while on international duty with Nigeria.

The Partenopei will miss the service of the striker, who has notched in 21 Serie A goals this season and four goals out of five appearances in the Champions League.

The former Lille of France striker was missed in that encounter, but Hernandez is adamant the Serie A leaders have other quality players to take his place.

The Frenchman said in a press conference, as per Daily Post:

“It changes nothing for us. Napoli has many strong players, and whoever replaces him will do well.”

Sacchi: 'Osimhen would also struggled'

Meanwhile, former Italian coach, Arrigo Sacchi claimed Osimhen would also struggle had the Napoli star also featured for Napoli in the AC Milan game.

The Serie A log leaders suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat against the defending champions on April 2, in a tie the Nigerian striker missed due to injury.

Sacchi explained that the Italian league's top goal-scorer would not have been able to save Napoli from the humiliation they endured.

Osimhen nears George Weah’s record

Sports Brief also reported on Osimhen nearing George Weah’s record in the Serie A as he races to become Africa’s top scorer in the Italian top flight.

The impressive forward, who moved to Napoli in the summer of 2020, has now scored 45 league goals for the Partenopei, just one less than Weah.

Between 1995 and 2000, the Liberian registered 46 Serie A goals for AC Milan in 114 matches, making him Africa’s top league scorer of all-time.
