Fans of Barcelona have made it crystal clear they are yearning for the return of Lionel Messi.

Messi, whose current contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs out in the summer, has been linked with a fairy-tale return to Camp Nou following the Parisian club's failure to reach a contract extension agreement with him.

The news of the Argentine's blockbuster return has excited fans of the club, who have made their feelings clear by singing his name for the second game in a row at Camp Nou.

Fans chant "Messi" during 10th minute

Supporters of the Catalan giants first sang Messi's name during Barcelona's second-leg semifinal tie with rivals Real Madrid in the 10th minute last Wednesday, GOAL reports.

On Monday, April 10, the fans were at it again, this time during a La Liga tie against Girona, which ended in a stalemate, per SB Nation.

However, what is standing in the way of Messi's return to his old stomping grounds is Barcelona's financial stance.

If they can make enough room on their wage bill to abide by La Liga's Financial Fair Play regulations, then Messi will retrace his steps back home to Barcelona.

Messi reaches new milestone

Meanwhile, the empyrean Argentine has officially become the most prolific footballer across Europe's top five leagues following his recent strike against OGC Nice over the weekend.

The 35-year-old broke the deadlock for Paris Saint-Germain against Nice on Saturday night at the Allianz Riviera and, in the process, reached another historic accomplishment.

With the neat finish on the road, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is now the all-time leading scorer in Europe with 702 goals, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Leo Messi to leave PSG?

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lionel Messi is expected to bring his two-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain to an end this summer following the expiration of his contract.

Messi's representatives have been in contact with PSG about extending his deal, and things appeared promising during the World Cup in Qatar.

However, the situation has altered, with the Argentine playmaker looking more likely to leave the club rather than extend his stay.
