  • Lazio winger Pedro Rodriguez faces an uncertain future at the Italian club
  • The former Chelsea star moved to Italy in 2020 and remained in the capital
  • His contract renewal could prove difficult due to a clause in his contract

Pedro Rodriguez is one of the most decorated footballers, one of the best and most underrated wingers of his generation. He grew through the ranks of Barcelona academy and has represented the senior team, Chelsea, Roma and currently plays for Lazio.

He left Chelsea in 2020 during the mass clear out of Frank Lampard's second season in charge and joined Italian Serie A club AS Roma.

Jose Mourinho, another former Chelsea boss, sent him out of Roma after just a year. He chose to remain in the Italian capital joining rivals Lazio in a controversial move.

He signed a two-year contract and became the first player to move directly between the two clubs since goalkeeper Astutillo Malgioglio in 1985, according to Football Italia.

He would be out of contract in June, and Lazio, managed by former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, are yet to offer him a renewal. Even if they do, it could come at a personal cost.

Pedro to pay Roma €1m

According to Italian media, Il Messaggero, via Tuttomercato, the 2010 World Cup winner will pay Giallorossi €1m from his purse if he renews his contract. This was a clause in the contract that transferred him between the two capital clubs.

Football Italia adds that an agreement to extend Pedro’s current deal depends on qualification for next year’s Champions League. Lazio currently sits second in the Serie A table with a five-point advantage over rivals Roma in fifth.

Mourinho clashes with Lazio president

Sports Brief reported that Jose Mourinho clashed with Lazio president Claudio Lotito after the derby della Capitale, which Roma lost 1-0.

The Special One was not on the touchline for the game as he was serving a two-match suspension for clashing with referee Sienna, but he was allowed in the dressing room after the game.

While trying to cool down a brawl that came up after the game, Mourinho got involved with Lotito, who he accused of peeping into the away dressing room.
