Ronaldinho's son, Joao Mendes de Assis Moreira, made his long-awaited debut for Barcelona as he follows in the footsteps of his renowned father.

The 18-year-old Mendes completed a move to the Barca U19 side last month, having previously featured for Brazilian outfits, Cruzeiro and Flamengo, as well as a brief spell with Paris Saint-Germain.

The bright young player debuted for the Juvenil B team of the 'Cule' academy during a friendly competition, per Barca Universal.

At the MIC tournament across Catalonia, he made his debut wearing the No.7 shirt.

Mendes, who is naturally a left-footer and is in fact a striker, was spotted showing glimpses of his brilliance.

In the video making the rounds on the internet, he made darting runs while confidently taking on defenders with the same swagger his famous dad had.

According to Forbes, the youngster contributed to Barca's 3-0 victory in their Group E opener over another U19 squad in the tournament, being played in the Costa Brava coastal town of Lloret de Mar.

Owing to the illustrious heights his father attained, it will be interesting to see how Mendes' career goes from here on.

His dad, Ronaldinho, had his best years as a footballer while playing for La Bluagrana.

The 2002 World Cup champion won multiple La Liga championships and the UEFA Champions League in 2006, also scooping several coveted individual prizes.

Ronaldinho's son joins Barcelona

In related news, Sports Brief reported on Mendes joining Barcelona, the team his father played for in Spain.

The 17-year-old signed a contract to play football outside of his native Brazil with the Catalan giants' U19 squad.

Mendes had played for the Cruzeiro team in Brazil before relocating to Spain to sign up for La Blaugrana.
