  • Chelsea are into the Champions League quarterfinals after beating Borussia Dortmund in the last-16
  • A penalty from Kai Havertz and a Raheem Sterling belter overturned the tie in favour of the Premier League giants
  • The Stamford Bridge outfit could have seen their game travel to extra time but for the profligacy of Jude Bellingham

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham was guilty of missing a big opportunity as his side were bundled out of the Champions League by Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Bellingham's Dortmund arrived in England on the back of an impressive 10-game winning streak, including beating Chelsea by a lone goal in the first leg.

However, their hard work at the Signal Iduna Park was undone by Sterling and Havertz's goals either side of halftime as the Blues overturned the first-leg defeat to punch their ticket to the quarterfinal, per the Sun.

How did the match unfold?

Knowing what was at stake, Graham Potter's charges flew out of the blocks from the blast of the whistle, with Atletico Madrid loanee Joao Felix and Kai Havertz causing trouble to the Dortmund defence.

Chelsea had the ball at the back of the net but was cancelled for offside before Raheem Sterling broke the game's deadlock after 43 minutes.

After recess, it was a giddy affair, with both sides cancelling each other out until the home side grabbed the second goal via a twice-taken penalty from Kai Havertz.

His goal proved crucial as Chelsea held on to secure a ticket to the last eight of the competition by the scruff of the neck.

Bellingham's big chance

Jude Bellingham was expected to boss the midfield after playing a crucial role in Dortmund's one-nil win in the first leg and his side's unblemished performance in 2023.

However, on his return to England, Bellingham was far from his best and missed a big chance to level the tie when he side-footed wide just before the hour mark.

Chelsea knocks out Dortmund

Sports Brief previously reported that Chelsea kept their season alive by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League 2-1 on aggregate on Tuesday.

With a twice-taken penalty, Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz got the goals as the Blues relieved the pressure on manager Graham Potter.

Chelsea were guilty of trying to protect their advantage in the final quarter and relied on Kepa to bail them out as Wolf stung the palms of the Spaniard.
