Flying Eagles of Nigeria have missed the chance to reach the final of the 2023 Under-20 African Cup of Nations after losing 1-0 to Gambia in their semi-final game on Monday night, 6 March.

This was not the result Nigerians had expected considering the Flying Eagles performance in the quarter-final, but the Gambian players were more determined to reach the final of the competition.

Going into this game, outgoing Nigerian president, Buhari, saluted the Flying Eagles for reaching the semi-final and urged them to return to the country with the title.

Who scored the goal?

Gambia started the encounter impressively and they waited for only seven minutes to score their goal through Adama Bojang.

The Nigerian players tried all they could to restore parity in the first half, but the Gambian defenders were excellent in their department.

Ladan Bosso and his wards laboured in the second half, but the Gambians held on for an incredible win over Nigeria as they even finished the match with 10 men.

Haruna Njie was sent off by the referee at the death.

Manchester United want Osimhen

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Manchester United have reportedly shortlisted names of four strikers they are looking up to sign in the summer with the Nigerian and Napoli strongman Victor Osimhen among their targets.

This comes hours after the Red Devils suffered the most heartbreaking defeat in their history, losing 7-0 against Liverpool in a Premier League game played on Sunday, 5 March.

United fans were all disappointed after the match and that has put manager Erik ten Hag under serious pressure as he must go back to the drawing board to seek redemption.

Osimhen is the man of the moment in the Serie A where he has registered 19 league goals this term which has made him a target for many clubs in Europe.
