Orlando Pirates got over their disappointing Soweto Derby loss against Kaizer Chiefs in a satisfying fashion.

The Buccaneers were too good for Swallows FC in the original Soweto Derby with a 4-1 victory on Friday evening at the Dobsonville Stadium.

The red-hot Monnapule Saleng opened the scoring for the visitors with a cheeky back-heeled goal in the sixth minute. The increasingly impressive Terrence Lorch, Dzvukamanja then doubled the lead in the 47th minute after a goal-mouth scramble. This goal might later be awarded as an own goal should the Disputed Goals Committee of the Premier Soccer League review it.

Saleng then doubled his tally for the night on the hour mark to make it 3-0, effectively ending the one-sided match as a contest. Mthokozisi Shwabule then pulled one back for the home side in the 76th minute as it threatened something of a fightback.

However, the unstoppable Saleng completed his hat-trick in the second minute of referee's optional time as Pirates raced to a 4-1 victory.

This was man-of-the-match Saleng's 12th goal (eight in the DStv Premiership, four in MTN8) in all competitions this season, surely putting him in the conversation for the Player of the Season Award as well as in the Golden Boot race.

Swallows XI: Mbanjwa, Zulu, Sasman, Sibiya, Mngonyama, Mthethwa, Lukhubeni, Mtshali, Macheke, Malinga, Rusike.

Subs: Akpeyi, Matsheke, Damons, Wambi, Patjie, Ngwenya, Musonda, Shwabula.

Orlando Pirates XI: Chaine, Xoki, Mako, Mthethwa, Makhaula, Timm, Hotto, Saleng, Dlamini, Lorch, Dzvukamanja.

Subs: Mpontshane, Monyane, Ngiba, Motshwari, Ndlondlo, Pule, Makgopa, Erasmus, Marou.

Mahlangu mocks Soweto Derby standard

To say that Jabu Mahlangu was disappointed with another boring Soweto Derby is truly an understatement.

'Shuffle', a former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates player, was unfiltered in how he described the drab encounter at Soccer City that the Amakhosi won 1-0 courtesy (and fittingly) thanks to an 89th-minute own goal by Olisa Ndah.

According to the Sunday World, Mahlangu said the match was terrible.
