  • Danny Simpson recently narrated how Cristiano Ronaldo changed the course of his date with a lady
  • The former Leicester City star is currently a free agent, and has been keeping fit with some other unattached football stars
  • In a recent interview, Simpson narrated about a date in Los Angeles which ended up in a lucky meeting with Cristiano
  • The two had a brief stint together as teammates at Manchester United

Danny Simpson recently told a hilariously brilliant story of how Cristiano Ronaldo once saved his date with a former Miss California.

The former Leicester City star spoke on the Under the Cosh podcast where he described how a nightmare date immediately turned for the better after Ronaldo’s inadvertent intervention.

Known to very few, Simpson and Ronaldo were actually teammates at some point at Manchester United.

It was during this stint at Old Trafford that the full-back experienced just what it was like to be colleagues with a renown world superstar.

"I've got a story about that summer in LA,” he started as quoted on Daily Star.
"We went to LA on a pre-season tour, playing against PSG, we were thinking 'what are we doing here' we normally go Dublin and we're now in LA."

Ronaldo saves disastrous date

Simpson went on to explain how he snuck out of the team’s hotel room to meet up with a girl at a steak restaurant.

"Meets Miss California right, start having dinner and I swear to god it was going w**k. She must've been thinking: 'who's this lad, I can't understand what he's saying he's from Salford'."

In a bizarre case of serendipity, just as Simpson was mentally giving up on the manner in which the date was going, he felt a tap on his shoulder and it was none other than Cristiano, and the two exchanged pleasantries.

“I've looked up and it's only (Cristiano) Ronaldo. He's gone 'Simmo' and I've gone 'Ronny!' He continues.

Based on the superstardom Ronaldo enjoyed at the time, the fact that Simpson knew the Portugal star earned him massive points in the eyes of the former Miss California.

The date actually went on to ask how he knew Ronaldo and Simpson exhibited some ‘game’ by playing it down and saying “I used to play alongside him”.

And expectedly, the lady’s demeanor immediately changed after that lucky meeting with Ronaldo.

Where is Danny Simpson now?

As reported on Sports Brief, Simpson is currently a free agent and is part of a group of free agent football stars who meet twice a week for kickabouts in a bid to keep fit.

This is in the hopes that perhaps some of them will land a new club in the near future.

The group reportedly hires football pitches and in their amateur game, the winners claim the bragging rights while losers have to incur the costs of the day.

How Mark Clattenburg helped Leicester win league

Simpson, in the same interview, also narrated how during Leicester’s title-winning 2015/16 campaign, referee Mark Clattenburg was unwilling to send off one of the Foxes’ players out of fear that it would dent their brilliant season.

The Foxes, almost relegated in the previous season, parted ways with head coach, Nigel Pearson and appointed former Chelsea coach, Claudio Ranieri, who masterminded the triumph.

Clattenburg officiated four Leicester games that season of which they won three and drew one. The Foxes won the title with a 10-point advantage over Arsenal and the alleged referee gaffe would likely not have influenced the outcome.
