The 2022 FIFA The Best Awards was held in France on February 27 and the players did not disappoint in the fashion capital of the world, Paris.

Lionel Messi, who in the past had been criticised over his wardrobe, was crowned the best player for the year under review.

However, it was the players' style of fashion on the green carpet that caught the attention of viewers, with several stars rocking designer suits.

1. Messi and wife look stunning

Messi arrived at the ceremony with his wife, confidante and mother of his children, Antonella Roccuzzo in an all-black ensemble. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner wore a bowtie on his shirt while his wife held a lovely rose flower bag.

2. Kylian Mbappe rocks a suit

Kylian Mbappe is a force to be reckoned with on the pitch, but he also knows how to look good in a suit - just your typical Parisian.

3. Lionel Scolani in Argentine colours

Paying attention to detail is part of fashion and that is exactly what coach of the year, Lionel Scolani did. With his white shirt and sea-blue tie, it's obvious he is from Argentina.

4.Virgil Van Dijk's green tuxedo

Virgil arrived in France knowing he needs to be different. Green tuxedo, silky hair and a broad smile did the trick.

5. Alexis Putellas' angelic white dress

In a room filled with black suits, Alexis Putellas arrived like an angel sent from above with her lovely white dress.

Manchester United women's goalkeeper, Mary Earps brightened the auditorium in her flashy golden dress.

Lionel Messi crowned best player

Sports Brief previously reported on Messi being crowned the best player of 2022 at FIFA's The Best Awards ceremony held in Paris on February 27.

The legendary Argentina forward beat his Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Mbappe and Real Madrid star, Karim Benzema to win the top award.

Messi led his country to a third World Cup title in Qatar, scoring in each of the knockout games and netting two in the final against France.
