- Goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford decided the game in United's favour
- A forgotten United star made a bold claim about the English forward after he scored yet again
Two goals in six first-half minutes from Brazilian midfielder Casemiro and the in-form Marcus Rashford were all that was needed to beat Saudi-owned Newcastle United and thwart their attempt to win their first domestic trophy in 67 years.
Rashford's goal was initially credited as a Dan Burn own goal but was recredited to the former after the game. He is one of the players who won the last trophy in 2017.
Phil Jones, another member of Jose Mourinho's winning squad, has now lavished praise on Rashford, who he claims is the best player in the world based on his current form, as reported by Metro UK.

“He came back from the World Cup probably not starting as many games as he would have liked [for England]. He’s knuckled down, got on with it, he’s become sharper, stronger, and you see that in his performances this season,” Jones said.
“His all-round game has hit heights. He’s been brilliant, and on current form he’s probably the best player in the world. You can see his body shape, he’s strengthened in the gym and worked really hard to improve himself. People don’t see the work he puts in after training. I’m delighted for him, he deserves it,” he added.
Chelsea star Chilwell drops hint of bigger trouble within the team
FootballThe United academy graduate has scored 25 goals and assisted a further nine goals in all competitions this season, a personal career best for him.
Jones works as pundit
Sports Brief earlier reported that Phil Jones worked as a pundit in the match yesterday despite being a registered Manchester United player and his club being in action.
His last appearance for the club came in May 2022 and is yet to record a single minute since Erik Ten Hag took over at Old Trafford in September 2022.
The 31-year-old is contracted to the Red Devils till June 2023, with the club retaining an option of a further year, which is unlikely to be triggered as he is set to depart the club after 12 years.
