  • Winter signing Wout Weghorst went another game without scoring for Manchester United in the 3-0 win over Leicester City
  • The Dutchman looked dejected after the game, despite his team securing all three points at Old Trafford
  • He was however integral for his teammates, who attempted to set him up for a goal after United secured the points with the third goal

Manchester United fans could not help but sympathize with towering striker Wout Weghorst after the Dutchman somehow failed to find the net despite a dominating display against Leicester City on Sunday, February 19.

Marcus Rashford put United in the lead in the first half as he continued his superb form since after the World Cup with a neat finish from Bruno Fernandes’ pass.

The England forward’s second goal was equally as clinical as he latched onto a pass from Fred before slotting home a goal which was subject to a lengthy check from VAR, as reported on BBC.

Jadon Sancho rounded off the scoring with brilliant team move and from then onwards, the Red Devils looked like they were on cruise control.

Goalless Weghorst was crucial

Weghorst, who played in a number 10 position, might have missed the mark in terms of a goal, but there was no denying his contribution to the team.

Fans also noted his dejected state at full time despite the win, and they concluded the tall Dutchman was growing increasingly desperate for a goal.

“Weghorst is an easy one to criticise, but very clear to see why ETH rates him and likes him, especially at the top of the midfield. Works and presses non-stop and brilliant at it.” @LiamCanning said.
“Wout Weghorst looks gutted not to get on the scoresheet after the game!! Hopefully he eventually gets his Old Trafford goal!” @ThreadmanChaza added.
“He’s not scoring goals at the moment but he’s still contributing a lot with his link up play, as well as his pressing out of possession and his work rate. I’m sure Ten Hag is still reasonably happy with his impact!” @ThreadmanChaza said.
"I Love his contribution in the team, he might not score but definitely he's up and doing." @duruchris9 added.
