According to Goal, the clean sheet saw the Spaniard beat Peter Schmeichel's record of 180 clean sheets.

The Spain international now boasts 181 clean sheets, a feat Schmeichel was quick to applaud.

The legendary goalkeeper posted on Twitter:

“The 180th clean sheet was hard-earned. Well deserved with two out-of-this-world saves. Well done David de Gea.”
“Many congratulations, what a fantastic achievement," he added.

De Gea's Man United career

De Gea joined Man United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

He was part of United's squad that won the club's last Premier League title in 2013.

The 32-year-old has gone on to become an integral squad member at the club, having made over 500 appearances across competitions.

He has won top honours during the period, including the Europa League in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.

Maguire hailed as hero

At the same time, Sports Brief reported Man United defender, Harry Maguire was hailed as a hero for his actions despite only playing for two minutes in the Carabao Cup final.

After the match, the embattled defender appeared to snub the club's co-chairman, Avram Glazer, who made a rare appearance to watch the Red Devils in action.

The last time Glazer was present for a club game was back in August 2022, when Man United lost 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion.
