Onome Ebi Set To Become Oldest Player To Appear at Women’s World Cup

Onome Ebi who is the captain of the Super Falcons of Nigeria is now set to become the oldest player in history to feature at the Women's World Cup with this year's competition taking place in Australia and New Zealand.

Ebi who will be turning 40 by May this year has recorded her name in the history books of the Nigerian football considering her achievements with the national team.

The former Bayelsa Queens star and her teammates in the Super Falcons are currently preparing for the World Cup with the target of them making Nigerians proud in the competition.

The coming 2023 Women's World Cup will be Onome's sixth for Nigeria and she will become the first African to land this mighty achievement.

Debut for Super Falcons

Onome made her debut for the Super Falcons in 2003, and the Nigerian strong defender has gone to make more than 100 appearances winning four WAFCON titles.

Meanwhile, Nigeria are in Group B for the 2023 Women's World Cup and will face Canada, Australia and Republic of Ireland.

Sports Brief spoke with Nigerian sports reporter Tunde Samsudeen who expressed happiness over the career of Ebi in the national team.

''I must say I am impressed with Ebi's career because she is a player I have known right from when she began her career and I can only hope and wish her success at the coming World Cup.''

Cameroon fail to join Nigeria

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Cameroon's female national team crashed out of the final play-off game losing against Portugal 2-1 on Wednesday, February 22, which means that they won't be participating in the 2023 Women's World Cup.

The Indomitable Lionesses went into this game against the Portuguese with hopes of them qualifying for the competition, but the Europeans were more determined in the duel.

They will have to go back to the drawing board and correct their mistakes so as for them to qualify for future competitions.

On the other hand, Panama became the 32nd and final team to pick their ticket after defeating Paraguay 1-0 in the final qualifying play-off in New Zealand.
