  • Chelsea secured the services of Joao Felix on loan to help bolster their attack until the end of the season
  • The Portuguese was shown a straight red card on his debut for a high-boot tackle
  • He has been one of the bright sparks in Graham Potter's attack despite the poor form

Chelsea spent over £300m in the January transfer window on eight new players, including signing Portuguese attacker Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid for £9.6m until the end of the season, covering his full salary.

He had a nightmare debut after he was shown a straight red card for a high boot tackle in the 52nd minute of the game against Fulham, meaning he missed three games and one month of action.

He scored on his return to action against West Ham, beating the offside mark to slot home from a delightful over-the-defence pass from fellow January recruit and World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez.

''The position I play and the way we play at Chelsea is different to Atletico. Clearly I have more freedom to put my football into practice, to be at my best to help the team. I feel good playing here. It's just a matter of getting results and it will be perfect,'' he said.

Felix amused by Chelsea fans chant

The former Benfica star is also impressed by Chelsea fans giving him a chant in just his first game at the club, a privilege he never had for three and half years in Spain.

''I spent three and a half years at Atletico, and I never had a chant. Here in the first game I had one, but here it's normal, they've got one for almost every player. It was funny,'' he said.

Felix unsure of future at Chelsea

Sports Brief earlier reported that Felix expressed concerns over his future as he is unsure where he will play football next session.

He confirmed that the relationship between him and Diego Simeone, who is set to continue as Atletico Madrid boss till 2024, is broken, but he maintains a good relationship with the club.

The Madrid club are demanding over £100m for the Blues to make the move permanent, which Felix believes could be a stumbling block in the deal.
