Van Persie Delighted With Manchester United Fans Chanting His Name Ahead of Barcelona Game

Manchester United fans made it a beautiful atmosphere for their fans and former players who came to Old Trafford for their second leg of the Europa League game but made it an intimidating environment for the away fans.

The fans had earlier requested that the music over the public address system at the stadium be turned off one hour ahead of the match so that their voices could be heard loud and clear by the visiting fans.

In attendance was former Reds striker Robin Van Persie who played for the club for three seasons and led them to their last Premier League title in the 2012/13 season under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Van Persie delighted with fans' chant

The former Dutch striker joined former United players Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves on BT Sports punditry at pitchside before the game, as reported by Sun UK.

There were loud chants of Ohhh Robin Van Persie from the United faithful, which got the former Arsenal man smiling. Hargreaves said maybe the fans were trying to get him back to the pitch.

The former Feyenoord striker joined United from Arsenal at the beginning of the 2012/13 season and scored 26 goals to help Sir Alex Ferguson win the Premier League in his final season, also taking home the golden boot.

The video of the reaction was uploaded to Twitter by BT Sports, which got the fans talking in admiration of the player who endeared himself to them with his beautiful left foot.

Young fan takes on Barca fans

Manchester United fans were in their element at Old Trafford last night, setting the tone for the game and cheering their team on to victory.

Asides from the Robin Van Persie chants, they made themselves heard during the build-up to the game. Sports Brief earlier reported that a young fan trolled Barca fans outside the stadium.

The fans responded to him with chants of Arsenal Arsenal, the club Van Persie spent eight years.
