A mural has been painted in honour of late Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu.

The new painting sighted in Accra is to immortalize the player, who passed away following an earthquake in Turkey.

Atsu was found dead 12 days after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which hit the southern part of Turkey and northern part of Syria on February 6, 2023.

The lifeless body of the player has been flown to Ghana with preparations ahead of his burial and final funeral underway.

Atsu's death has left many in the state of shock with former teammates and players paying tribute to the 31-year-old.

In photos shared on social media, a new mural has been painted in Tema, a suburb of the capital to honour the former Chelsea winger.

The former Newcastle player started his career in Europe with FC Porto before moving to Chelsea in England. He spent time on loan at Bournemouth, Everton and Vitesse Arnhem.

With the Ghana national team, Atsu made 65 appearances, scoring nine goals for the Black Stars.

His last involvement in football was in Hatayspor's game against Kasimpasa on February 5, 2023.

Former players pay tribute to Atsu

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Black Stars players, led by ex-captain, Asamoah Gyan and midfielder, Sulley Muntari have visited the family of Christian Atsu following the death of the player.

The winger tragically passed away following a devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6.

After 12 days of being trapped under rubble, Atsu's body was recovered on February 18.

Orphans catered for by Atsu devastated

Orphans from Becky's Foundation were left heartbroken following the death former Ghana winger and their major benefactor, Christian Atsu.

The winger supported the foundation through his Arms Around the Child non-governmental organisation.

The former Chelsea and Newcastle United player had 'adopted' the orphans and was building a school for the children before his death.
