Mohammed Kudus has dedicated his first-ever freekick goal to late Ghana winger Christian Atsu.

Atsu, who was trapped under rubble for 12 days, sadly passed away following the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey on February 6, 2023.

His lifeless body was found on Saturday, February 18 and has immediately been transported to his native, Ghana.

Kudus sealed victory in Ajax's 4-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam with a spectacular freekick, reminiscent of Atsu's last goal before his tragic passing.

The in-form Ghana midfielder celebrated his goal, showing the inscription R.I.P Atsu on the shirt under his jersey.

Meanwhile, a brace from captain Dusan Tadic and a Kenneth Taylor strike ensured Ajax continue their rich run of form under John Heitinga.

Atsu's remains is expected to arrive in Ghana on Sunday evening ahead of preparations for his burial.

It is understood that the player will receive a state burial following his contribution to football in Ghana.

Atsu was the best player at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as Ghana finished second, following a penalty shootout defeat to Ivory Coast.

Porto and Rio Ave pay tribute to Atsu

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that FC Porto and Rio Ave, two of the clubs Christian Atsu played for during his time in Portugal, have paid a glowing tribute to the late footballer.

Atsu tragically passed away following the earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023.

The 31-year-old's lifeless body was pulled out of rubble on Saturday, February 18, 2023, after 12 days of being trapped under the wreckage of the apartment he lived in.

Wife of Christian Atsu broke down in tears as Newcastle United and Liverpool observed a minute silence for the player who died following the earthquake in Turkey.

Atsu sadly passed away after being trapped under rubble for 12 days after a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Hatay, Turkey.

The lifeless body of the Hatayspor winger was found on Saturday, February 18, 2023 and has immediately been transported to his home country, Ghana.
