Social media followers don't count

While Dortmund were among the teams linked with the Portuguese superstar, Dortmund's Managing Director, Carsten Cramer insisted they weren't interested in signing him.

As reported by Goal, Cramer appeared to hint that the club focused on talented players, not celebrities.

“Basically, the value of Borussia Dortmund does not depend on social media followers. We are a football club, that's the key" he said.
"Even with the best brand presentation, the be-all and end-all is the product."

Ronaldo's online influence

Ronaldo's online presence was seen as an opportunity to bring sponsorship income for any team that signed him.

The Al-Nassr attached has 108 million followers on Twitter, 549 million fans on Instagram and 161 million followers on Facebook.

Not the only Bundesliga side

BVB were not the online German side that Ronaldo was offered to prior to his move to Saudi Arabia.

90min reported that Bayern Munich turned down a chance to sign him, while the Express reported that Eintracht Frankfurt were also offered the Portuguese star.

Bayern voted against signing Ronaldo

Bayern Munich’s Sporting Director, Hasan Salihamidžić has explained why the club didn’t try to sign Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar was linked with a move to the Bundesliga champions before he signed for Al-Nassr.

Salihamidžić explained that signing Ronaldo was discussed but the club board voted against the decision, as Sports Brief reported.

Kahn opens up on Ronaldo

Sports Brief previously reported on Bayern Munich opting against bringing in Harry Kane and Ronaldo.

Both superstars were linked with a move to the German giants after the departure of Robert Lewandowski.

Bayern CEO, Oliver Kahn has now opened up about the rumours and shared just why it was not meant to be.
