Real Madrid Star Toni Kroos Comes Out in Support of Controversial European Super League

Toni Kroos has come out in support of the controversial European Super League and believe the proposed competition will one day become a reality.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus are the only three clubs that remain at least publicly committed to the idea, but face plenty of skepticism on both their motives and the concept itself.

According to Football Espana, Kroos labelled UEFA as not being a good Samaritan for football and insists the idea of the proposed league should be considered.

“I think we will see the Super League and I believe so for several reasons. The idea of the Super League has changed and deserves to be heard.

“It is a sports competition, open, but managed by the clubs and not by UEFA, because these clubs believe that they do not need UEFA for that. I think this deserves at least a chance.”

A22 revealed plans to revise the concept of the European Super League earlier this month, with a ten-point plan outlining a competition with 60 to 80 teams and a minimum of 14 matches per club.

Kroos slams UEFA over league

Meanwhile, Kroos has labelled the UEFA Nations League as 'a competition nobody needs' and slammed the European football body, Goal reports.

The German midfielder believes the competition adds to an already congested football calendar and insists there was no need for the competition in the first place.

Kroos made 106 appearances for his country, winning the 2014 World Cup before retiring from international football in July 2021.

Kroos marks 250th league appearance

Sports Brief also reported on Kroos reaching a milestone in Spanish football, celebrating his 250th appearance in La Liga in spectacular fashion.

The midfielder made his debut in the league as a substitute against Córdoba in 2014 and made his milestone appearance against Barcelona in El Clasico.

Kroos highlighted why he was still highly regarded at Real Madrid since that first game, playing an important role in Los Blancos' opening goal.
