Manchester United Head Coach Erik ten Hag has seemingly welcomed the reintroduction of the European Super League.

The Super League organisers announced a new format that will include 60 to 80 teams after an earlier version was shot down in 2021.

Ten Hag has expressed his interest in learning about the new proposals when the time is right. Managers have often kept away from the controversial discussion but the Dutchman is willing to support the idea provided that it improves football.

Ten Hag's thoughts

"I’m aware of the dynamic of what’s going on but if I see they’re coming up with new ideas I have to have a look at it and I will make an opinion. So I’m not aware because we are playing so many games now."

"I think the current structure is good but there will always be initiatives to make it better, to make the football better and that is what life is; people always want to construct better, which is a good thing because if it is in favour of the football, it is always good," as quoted by the Mirror.

New Super League format

Sports Brief had earlier reported that A22, a company based in Madrid, has been tasked with bringing to life the Super League and recently broke down what the league will be all about.

In 2021, there was a 12-club proposal that was brutally shut down as a result of public outcry. But two years on, A22 chief executive, Bernd Reichart revealed plans are underway to revamp the ESL because European football foundations 'are in danger of collapsing'.

There will be no permanent members of the new-look league, as was initially the plan in 2021. Rather, the league would seek to follow a multi-divisional format which would comprise 60-80 teams, with each team playing a minimum of 14 games per season.
