- Luis Suarez's piece of ingenuity led to confrontations between opponent players and match officials
- Suarez played a key part in Gremio's controversial opening goal against Avenida
- Army officials had to be called into the pitch to straighten out the situation
It wouldn't be far from the truth if someone were to label Luis Suarez, a troublemaker. For all his successes on the pitch over the years, the striker has also created a reputation for being at the centre of on-pitch controversies.
Currently plying his trade with Brazilian club Gremio, Suarez sparked a massive brawl on Sunday during a match against Avenida at the Arena de Gremio.
Suarez's role in the confrontation was subtle as he instructed a player to take a quick free kick and pass the ball to him. The idea caught the Avenida defence napping, with Suarez squaring the ball for Francisco Cristaldo to score. As GMS reports, Avenida players protested the nature in which the set piece was taken and quickly surrounded the referee.
