Former Chelsea owner and Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich witnessed the club win the final trophy of his era - the FIFA Club World Cup - a year before an event that spelt the end of his ownership reign.
Russia invaded Ukraine, which led the United Kingdom to impose sanctions on notable citizens of the country and their businesses in the country.
Abramovich was then forced to sell the club he had owned for 19 years.
The new owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have worked to amend things and support the war-torn country, with reports of efforts being stepped up towards a charity match.

Chelsea set for Shakhtar friendly
As part of the agreement to sign Ukrainian attacker, Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk for £89-million, Chelsea agreed to play a friendly against the club in the Donbas region whenever it is safe to do so, as reported by Evening Standard.
The Blues hijacked the deal for the 22-year-old from rivals, Arsenal, despite the Gunners being willing to match the offer for the fast winger.
Zinchenko orchestrating Chelsea-Arsenal friendly
The Mudryk transfer saga created bitterness among fans of the two clubs, but it appears the clubs' directors and players took it for what it is - a purely business transfer that could have gone either way.
As reported by Athletic UK, a friendly match is in the works between the two clubs, with either Stamford Bridge or the Emirates Stadium as a potential venue and the proceeds going to charity efforts in Ukraine.
