  • Pitso Mosimane departed Al Ahly SC last June amid much shock, controversy, and for some, relief
  • However, he has been a subject of much debate since leaving, before settling in at Al Ahli Saudi in Saudi Arabia
  • The latest furore is that of a comment made by a legend of the club, who is now part of the technical team

It just never ends when it comes to Pitso Mosimane and his former club Al Ahly SC in Egypt.

The South African, who resigned suddenly from the head coaching job at the Cairo-based club last June, was hounded out of the job even if he had a section of the fanbase behind him.

The latest controversy is in the words of Hossam Ghaly (Al Ahly SC football coordinator), who was quoted about Mosimane's departure - by the Al Ahli Saudi fan page @GifDAFC - as saying:

"Coach Pitso Mosimane told us of his departure because he was unable to take responsibility in light of the many pressures at the time."

This caused problems because Mosimane is now the head coach of the Saudi Arabian second-division club.

He responded on his own Twitter account:

"I don’t think Hossam Ghaly will say that. I think somebody is misquoting him, because it is not true!"

The fanpage then promptly responded to him with a link to a YouTube video by an Arab-language podcast where Ghaly purportedly said what he said.

Pitso Mosimane attacked by fans

Imagine losing a match as a coach for the first time in four months since taking over and some already demanding for your head.

Pitso Mosimane is one such person, having to deal with a minor but loudly irate section of the Al Ahli Saudi fanbase. His side was thumped 4-1 by Al Akhdoud in a Saudi First Division League match on Thursday, which saw him apologise for the embarrassing nature of the loss.

Up to that point, he had expertly guided the side to first place on the log standings, which was acknowledged by a majority of supporters who understand the unpredictable nature of sport. However, some absolutely lost the plot.
