Arturo Vidal has been forced to eat some humble pie.
The former Barcelona midfielder had some choice words for Real Madrid before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup but won’t get the chance to act on them.
What did Vidal say?
As noted by Managing Madrid, the Chilean midfielder fired off a warning to Madrid after his side, Flamengo, won the Copa Libertadores.

As champions of the Copa Libertadores, Flamengo qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup and a chance to face Real Madrid. Speaking after the final, Vidal exclaimed that they “were going to break Madrid’s [expletive].
What happened to his warning
Vidal never got to enact on his threat, though, as Flamengo were dumped out of the Club World Cup before facing the European champions. Football Espana reported that Flamengo were beaten in the semi-final by Al Hilal. The Saudi Arabian side have now booked their place in the final against either Egypt’s Al Ahly or Spain’s Madrid.
Vidal’s hatred for Madrid
As a former Barcelona player, Vidal naturally isn’t a fan of the La Liga champions. However, his animosity against the club started before he joined the Blaugrana, and he hasn’t been ashamed to admit that he hates Los Blancos over the years.
Vidal’s record against Madrid
Despite his hatred for the club, Vidal has never had the best track record against them. He’s played against the Spanish side 16 times, winning four times, drawing four times, and losing eight games, Transfermarkt confirmed.

Veteran midfielder Arturo Vidal watched proceedings from his dad’s funeral on Instagram live so he would not miss a Brazilian cup final.
Vidal, who joined Flamengo in July 2022 after leaving Inter Milan, lost his dad Erasmo Vidal, who was found dead this week at Chile's oldest racecourse.
Erasmo passed away aged 61 after suffering cardiac arrest at the Club Hipico de Santiago, Sports Brief reported.
