FootballArturo Vidal in Tears as He Watches Dad’s Funeral on IG Live After Missing It to Play in Cup Final
- Former Inter Milan and Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal failed to physically attend his father’s funeral
- The Chile international instead watched his dad’s funeral on Instagram live as he was preparing for a cup final
- Vidal, 35, currently plays for Flamengo in the Brazilian top flight
Veteran midfielder Arturo Vidal watched proceedings from his dad’s funeral on Instagram live so he would not miss a Brazilian cup final.
Vidal, who joined Flamengo in July 2022 after leaving Inter Milan, lost his dad Erasmo Vidal, who was found dead this week at Chile's oldest racecourse.
Erasmo passed away aged 61 after suffering cardiac arrest at the Club Hipico de Santiago.
Since his death on Tuesday, October 11, 35year-old Vidal initially stayed quiet on the matter, particularly on social media.

The Sun reports that Arturo’s sister Ambar started an Instagram Live to capture the emotional farewell of Erasmo, with Vidal eventually tuning in.
Fans then comforted the former Barcelona man as he broke down in tears during Instagram live.
Daily Mail further reports that Vidal decided to stay in Rio de Janeiro because of the Brazilian cup final slated for Thursday, October 13.
Flamengo came up against Corinthians, with Vidal coming on in the second half and playing for 25 minutes. The first leg ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
The fact that he missed his dad’s funeral did not mean Vidal was not affected by his passing, as he took to social media on Thursday to mourn him with a heartfelt message.
“Daddy, today I’ll miss your good luck message before the match.” He wrote.
“But I know that you’ll be supporting us from Heaven. We’ll win this cup and the next one for you and for everyone who supports me on a daily basis.”
