  • Manchester United saw off Crystal Palace to earn a deserved 2-1 win on Saturday
  • The Reds were reduced to 10 men after Casemiro's red card and played the last 20 minutes a man down
  • Ten Hag made a game closing decision in the final stages much to the dissatisfaction of a youngster

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro gave his Manchester United teammates a mountain to climb after his sending off in the closing stages of the win over Crystal Palace.

The former Real Madrid man was sent off for violent conduct after he grabbed the neck of Palace midfielder Will Hughes and VAR called the referee's attention to it leading to a straight red card.

Crystal Palace got one back and Erik Ten Hag while trying to close the game made a decision that left youngster Alejandro Garnacho frustrated on the bench, and the boss has told him to understand the decision.

Ten Hag sends message to Garnacho

Argentine youngster Alejandro Garnacho was brought on for Wout Weghorst in the 59th and hurled off again for Harry Maguire in the 87th after United went down to 10 men and their advantage reduced, as noted by We All Follow United.

The decision left the teenager cutting a frustrated figure sitting on the stairs to the bench at Old Trafford, and Ten Hag has told him in his post-match conference quoted by Metro UK to accept it as a decision in the interest of the team.

‘First we had to see how they changed, then you have to anticipate and see how we can close, how to be compact, how we close the gaps, how we get away from our goal but also still have a threat in attack,’ he said.
‘I think we had to change something. It’s not always nice bringing off a player who we brought on but it’s in the interests of the team and the player has to accept that.’

United careful of Casemiro appeal

The incident that led to Garnacho getting subbed off is one that has put Manchester United in more dilemma than to get worried that an 18-year-old player is reacting strangely.

As Sports Brief earlier reported, Casemiro's suspension could be extended if the club fail in their appeal and the FA deem it a frivolous appeal.

He will miss the two games against Leeds United as well as Leicester and could miss the Carabao Cup final if his suspension is extended over a failed appeal.
