The game got off to a cagey start, with the referee having to calm down the tension around the players after dishing out four yellow cards in the first half.

However, the second half saw the two teams create chances and were determined to get a goal before full time.

Incredible defending from Senegal left the game barren as Algeria came close through Mokhtar Belkhither and Zakaria Draoui.

Senegal had their own chances, which came through Diallo.

The game went to extra time before it was settled on penalties. After all two teams netted their first three spot kicks, Senegal missed after captain Cheikhou Omar Ndiaye hit the crossbar.

Youcef Laouafi gave Algeria the lead before Lamine Camara levelled. Top scorer of the tournament Aimen Mahious had the chance to win the tournament for Algeria but tried the Panenka and failed.

Senegal took advantage through Ousmane Diouf before Ahmed Kendouci missed as the West Africans were crowned champions.

Ghana knocked out of CHAN

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana have been eliminated from the CHAN tournament in Algeria after a shock 2-0 defeat to Niger on Saturday evening.

An own goal from Konadu Yiadom and a stunning strike from Soumana Hainikoye ensured Niger are through to the semi-finals.

The Black Galaxies looked shaky at the start of the game as right-back Augustine Agyapong nearly scored an own goal, but for the quick intervention of goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim.
