Former Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah Reveals Why He Reapplied for Job

Kwesi Appiah has disclosed that he is qualified enough to lead the Black Stars again, after re-applying for the vacant national coaching job.

The former Ghana coach is hoping to make a return to the national team, after Otto Addo stepped down as gaffer.

According to Appiah, he was persuaded to re-apply for the job after no Ghanaian coach had showed interest in the top role.

"Even though I had no intention of applying for the position, I later decided to do so just to correct the wrong impression that no local coach was qualified for the Black Stars job," he told the Graphic Sports as quoted by Pulse.

"All along, I thought the GFA was headhunting for a new coach, because I didn't hear any announcement inviting applications from interested coaches."

Appiah explained that when he had heard about numerous foreign coaches applying, he submitted his resume to prove local coaches had what it took to handle the Black Stars.

"The last time we checked, I had introduced about 40 players to the Black Stars in recent times. These are the players who are carrying the team and holding aloft the Ghana flag now.”

Appiah was Ghana coach between 2012 to 2014, before assuming the role again from 2017 to 2020.

Mad rush for Ghana job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on the Ghana Football Association revealing there has been a hot rush for the vacant national coaching position.

The national team role became vacant after coach Addo stepped down, following the Black Stars' early World Cup exit in Qatar last year.

Since opening up the position, the FA has received many applications and will shortlist the best candidates before January ends.

Appiah applies for Ghana job

Appiah confirmed he applied for the vacant senior national team job of Ghana, Sports Brief has reported.

The former Ghana player will be making a third attempt for the job, having coached the team twice in the past.

Appiah joins over 60 coaches to have applied for the role, as the Ghana Football Association continues to hunt for a new manager.
