The former Newcastle striker did not stop at praising Haaland, he issued a challenge after it was trending everywhere that the 22-year-old already has four Premier League hat-tricks.
He quoted a tweet that posted the numbers and asked; has anyone ever scored five in a PL season? making reference to his exploits in the 1995/96 season.
Haaland surpasses Ronaldo's record
Sports Brief earlier reported that Erling Haaland's fourth hat-trick means he has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick tally in the Premier League.
Ronaldo scored three goals in a match three times across his two spells at Manchester United, and it has taken Haaland a ridiculous 19 games to surpass that tally and it is only January.
Haaland is currently tied with Harry Kane on four and with 18 games left for Manchester City this season, he could match Shearer's record of five and possibly surpass it.
