Sebastian Brodrick: Former Nigerian Coach Hospitalised in Benin

• Former Golden Eaglets gaffer Sebastian Brodrick has been diagnosed with an ischemic stroke
• Brodrick, who won the Under-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 1985, is said to be on life support
• His son says the situation has not been easy and the family is spending N42K daily on oxygen

Former Nigerian Under-17 coach, Sebastian Brodrick is currently on admission at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where he has been placed on life support.

Brodrick is one of the most successful grassroots coaches in Nigeria and he made his name in 1985, when he led the Golden Eaglets to win the U17 World Cup.

His success with the Nigerian team then paved ways for many local coaches, who were also given the chance to handle various sides by the NFF chiefs.

The likes of Adegboye Onigbinde and late Yemi Tella were among those who benefited from Brodrick's groundbreaking achievements.

What is wrong with Brodrick?

According to the report by Punch, Brodrick was diagnosed with an ischemic stroke in December 2022. The condition occurs when a blood clot blocks or narrows an artery leading to the brain.

Chuka, who is the son of the 84-year-old Nigerian coach, told the publication his family is paying N42,000 daily for oxygen at the hospital in Benin.

The statement made by Chuka

“He has been managing diabetes as well, but now the stroke is the major concern, as he has totally lost all motor functions as we speak. He can’t work, speak or hear anybody. He has a tube to feed with and he is currently on oxygen.''

At the time, a N100,000 cash donation was made by the chairman of the Delta State's football association, Kenneth Nwamuocha.
