Bucs Legend Rooi Mahamutsa Denies Accusation of Referee Intimidation

It isn't a kasi football tournament without some type of drama involving controversial refereeing decisions.

The popular Imbewu Enhle Festive Season Tournament in Daveyton proved no different.

According to the Daily Sun, legendary Orlando Pirates defender Rooi Mahamutsa 'intimidated' a referee during one of the games into giving a favourable decision to his team. He was playing for USB-18 in an absorbing encounter against Wattville United.

United manager Khutso Dlamini, with the score 1-0 in USB-18's favour, said:

"We all saw it was a clear goal. The referee indicated it was a goal. Some of the rules of the tournament were bent in favour of USB-18."

A bemused Mahamutsa responded:

"The referee has the final word and this whole thing has nothing to do with me."

Chaos ensued on the field as United's contingent remonstrated with match officials eventually, leading to police being called to calm the situation down.

Tournament organizer Laly Skosana told the publication:

"Wattville United the pitch to celebrate what they thought was a goal two minutes before the game could end. It was going to unfair on USB-18 as they were leading."

USB-18 won the tournament by defeating Reach Out FC in the final, collecting R150 000 and a cow along with the trophy.

Skosana, meanwhile, said that the tournament was to be like the famous Macufe, growing to create jobs, getting youngsters spotted by professional clubs and showcasing local musical talent.

Rooi Mahamutsa abused in video

The intimidating former Orlando Pirates defensive wall Rooi Mahamutsa can count on appreciative football supporters to have his back.

A viral video showed the 40-year-old being heckled by a 'fan' as he played in an amateur team at an unnamed location.

This saw Pirates supporters as well as other football lovers coming to 'Ngubo's' defence.

Kasi tournament descends into chaos

The ending to the popular Zama Zama Sports Challenge was a sad one in Limpopo.

The final between Ngove Maspala and Nkomo Phunya FC at the KDY ground in Giyani had to be abandoned no-thanks to the actions of Motsepe Foundation Championship star Rophney "Rover" Hlungwane.

According to the Daily Sun, the 30-year-old Hlungwane, a striker for Maspala, refused to leave the field after being shown a red card for a deliberate foul inside the box. The entire match then descended into chaos, leading to its abandonment.
