Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appaih has revealed the reason for Arsenal ace Thomas Partey's struggles with the national team.

The Arsenal star has received heavy criticisms for his displays for the Black Stars at international tournaments, with the most recent being at the World Cup.

However, Appiah who first invited Partey to the Black Stars disclosed that the system at Arsenal is different from playing for the Black Stars.

"I would like to use this World Cup. If you look at Arsenal, they use him more like a defensive midfielder, always he plays in front of the defenders,” Appiah told Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV as quoted by Pulse.

“But here we [Ghana] use him as an offensive midfielder who operates on the right side. That means he is enclosed in a small area with the number 10 but at Arsenal, he can move all over the place."

Despite his struggles with the Black Stars, Partey is a key figure at Arsenal, helping the Gunners to top of the Premier League table. Arsenal are chasing their first title in 19 years.

The London giants have not lost a league game with the Ghanaian in the squad this season.

Mensah picks Partey over Casimero

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana and Columbus Crew centre-back Jonathan Mensah has joined the argument over who is the best defensive midfielder in the English Premier League.

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has come head-to-head with Manchester United's Brazilian star Casimero in the ongoing debate.

Ghanaian journalist Juliet Bawuah threw out the question on social media, including Manchester City's Rodri, asking who the best among the three players is.

Partey wins goal of the year

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey ended the year in style after winning the 2022 best goal at English Premier League side Arsenal.

The Ghana international had two of his goals in the top three strikes at Arsenal in 2022, with the stunner against Tottenham Hotspurs voted the best.

According to the club, 51 percent of fans voted for his goal against Spurs, beating Granit Xhaka's strike against Manchester United.
