Black Stars midfielder, Mohammed Kudus missed Ajax's game against NEC Nijmegen, following the resumption of the Dutch Eredivisie.
The 22-year-old, who excelled at the World Cup in Qatar, rejoined his teammates for preparations ahead of the return of the league.
But he was a surprising omission from the matchday squad, as Ajax travelled to pick up a lone point at the Gofferstadion.
According to reports, the attacking midfielder is suffering from a flu which has hit the Netherlands. Two other players in the Ajax squad are also down with the sickness.

The severity of the illness is yet to be known, but the player will be expected to recover in time to help the Dutch champions back on track.
In his absence, Davy Klassen scored for Ajax in the first half of their match against Nijmegen, but the hosts responded in the second half through Landry Dimata, as the spoils were shared.
Meanwhile, reports of a move away from Ajax by Kudus have been rife, with Manchester United the latest to join the chase, AS reports.
The Ghanaian is also on the radar of Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.
Manchester United interested in Kudus
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that English giants Manchester United are exploring the option of signing Ghana's World Cup star Kudus in the winter transfer window.
The in-demand 22-year-old will cost the Red Devils around 40 million Euros, after his value rose on the back of his outstanding performances this season.

Ajax star Kudus returned to Ghana for holidays before the resumption of the Dutch Eredivisie, Sports Brief reported.
The 22-year-old was the Black Stars' brightest spot at the World Cup in Qatar, and has found himself on the radar of several clubs.
Kudus scored two goals and provided one assist in three matches, despite his country being eliminated in the group stages.
