Football fraternities around the world are still mourning and paying tributes for the demise of one of the greatest players to have ever played the game, Pele.

Pele, before his death battled against cancer and passed away aged 80 leaving children and grandchildren behind in what was a fulfilled life well spent.

But despite the whole world aware that Pele has died, his 100-year-old mother, Celeste, has not been told that her son is late.

Why is she not aware?

According to the report on UK Sun, Pele's only surviving sibling, Maria Lucia do Nascimento, has refused to in form the legend's mother about the latest.

Maria Lucia do Nascimento's statement

“We talk but she doesn’t know the situation. She’s in her own world.
“She opens her eyes when I mention his name and say, ‘We’re going to pray for him' but she’s not really conscious of what I’m saying.”

Meanwhile, Pele is due to be buried in a 14-storey cemetery in the centre of Santos where he played most of his club football on Tuesday following three days of official mourning.

Pele’s daughter sends touching tribute

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Kely Nascimento paid a heartwarming tribute to his father, Edson Arantes do Nascimento affectionately called Pele following his death.

Pele touted by many as the greatest footballer to have ever graced the sport passed on aged 82 after a long battle with cancer.

His condition failed to improve after he was readmitted to the hospital in Sao Paulo.

The three-time World Cup winner remained in hospital throughout the 2022 World Cup and then for Christmas, as his family confirmed, BBC reports.

Pele's daughter, Kely Nascimento, had been providing regular updates on her father throughout the month with the world learning of his ill health, before his death was confirmed on December 29.
