  • Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku rejoined Inter Milan on loan after an unsuccessful return to England
  • The £97.5m signing helped Inter lift the 2021 Serie A title before sealing a move to former club Chelsea
  • He has now claimed the Nerazzurri can still win the title despite being fat behind leaders Napoli

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku returned to Inter Milan after a difficult season at Chelsea. He left Italy to return to London for the second time in his career for a club record £97.5m, but the transfer did not go as planned.

He had a fallout with former head coach Thomas Tuchel after an interview which questioned the German's tactics, coupled with unimpressive performances he returned to the club he won the 2021 Italian league title.

His return to Italy so far is as well not going the way Big Rom would have anticipated, he has had to deal with a lot of muscle injuries which has made it hard to replicate the form that won the Serie A title two years ago.

Lukaku retains Inter title hopes

Inter's sister and rival club AC Milan are current champions of Italy, after winning the league on the final day of last season, edging the blue and black with two points.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Italia, as per GIFN, Lukaku is refusing to give up on the team's chances of regaining their title.

“Until a team has lifted the trophy, everything is possible. Do I believe in it? All time. For that we play football, you have to believe in the impossible,” he said.

Despite Napoli's 11 points lead over Inter Milan and eight point lead over defending champions AC Milan who are second on the table, there are still 23 games left in the season and Lukaku believes the league is still open.

“As people say – it’s impossible for us. Let’s see at the end of the season the team that lifts the trophy and will be champion. Now no one has raised it, we are still there, there are still 6 months left. The championship ends on June 6, guys.” he added.

Lukaku determined to succeed at Inter

The Chelsea loanee had a World Cup to forget. He arrived in Qatar injured and had limited minutes, but in the final group game, he missed four big chances that could have sent Belgium through to the knockout stages.

As earlier reported by Sports Brief, he cancelled his post World Cup holiday and returned to Milan early, to work on his fitness and be ready in time for the restart of the league on January 4.

The 2021 champions will welcome league leaders Napoli to the San Siro in the first Serie A match back after the World Cup break.
