FootballWhen Brazil and Argentina Legends Pele and Maradona Reunite in Heaven
- Football lost another legend when it was announced Pele passed away on Thursday
- He joined fellow great and a friend Diego Maradona who passed away two years ago
- The two icons can now perhaps fulfill a longtime wish of playing football in the sky
Two of the greatest players to ever play football - the dominant forces of their respective eras - Edson Arantes do Nascimento Pele and Diego Armando Maradona have both departed the world after the former died on Thursday.
The Argentine passed away at the age of 60 on November 25, 2020 after suffering cardiac arrest. At the time, Pele in tribute to his friend said one day he hopes to play football with him in the sky.
''I have lost a great friend and the world has lost a legend. There's still so much to be said, but for now, may God give strength to his relatives. One day I hope we can play football together in heaven,'' Pele wrote on Twitter.
The Brazilian's wish can now be fulfilled after he joined his friend on Thursday night. The two had a ball heading time while still alive, and maybe they will replicate that in heaven.

Pele and Maradona can reunite
Aside from the wish of playing football in the sky, if the dead truly reunite in heaven, one of Pele's first sentences to Maradona will surely be to inform him that Lionel Messi won the World Cup with Argentina.
One of the Argentine's wishes was for the veteran forward to claim the Mundial, although he did not believe that accolade was necessary to cement Messi's place among the football greats, as reported by Sports Mole.
The 1986 World Cup winner died in 2020, the BBC reported, and Messi lifted the Copa America the following year, according to the New York Times, and the FIFA World Cup just days ago.

FootballFIFA: Pele is immortal
Sports Brief earlier reported that FIFA paid tribute to Pele by labelling him immortal and a man who would forever be. He is the holder of many World Cup records.
The Brazilian played in four FIFA World Cups and won a record three, all in the space of 12 years from 1958 to 1970. Many of his records have been broken but he remains forever in the history books.
Pele's longevity in the sport is perhaps best summed up with the phrase 'Pele did it first', often used in reverence of the player who greatly transformed The Beautiful Game.
