Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties are no secret.
The La Liga side had to activate numerous economic levers just to be able to sign players in the summer transfer window and relied on players taking wage cuts so the club could stay afloat.
One player who has really felt the pinch of the wage reductions is club captain, Sergi Roberto.
Roberto recently opened up about his salary at the Blaugrana, highlighting how much less he earns now, Football Espana reported.

“Right now I am earning as if I just came from the B team, but I do it with pride because I want to be here.”
Roberto further explained that it was not a salary reduction, as first believed, and that it was not about the money.
“I did not have to reduce my salary because my contract ended. We had to negotiate a new one. The other captains have also made an economic effort. Two years ago we were the only ones who did it. We made the effort, but we didn’t want to say anything,” he added.
Despite the sacrifices made by players and the club’s best efforts, Barcelona still finds themselves in breach of La Liga’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
Last month president Joan Laporta stated that the club would not be able to sign any players in January due to the regulations, ESPN reported.
